And their answers
Nutritional therapy focuses on the science of nutrition to promote optimal health. I assess all information about an individual’s diet and health to identify potential nutritional imbalances. As a nutritional therapist, I look at health holistically, taking into consideration lifestyle and environmental factors, as well as food intake. I help you to understand how your diet and lifestyle could be impacting your health and educate you in making healthier choices so you can feel at your best.
A follow-up appointment is recommended so that we can review your current plan and see what is or isn’t working for you. It is important for any short-term suggestions, like food elimination and supplements. It can also be overwhelming having one consultation and one big plan to follow, so people tend to prefer following a few suggestions for the first 6-8 weeks and then adding to that afterwards.
If you do not have any health goals and you would just like to have a better understanding of how to eat healthier for your wellbeing, then I can help to educate you in doing so. It is important that you still complete the comprehensive health questionnaire, so that I can be sure that there are no underlying symptoms, and to also get a better understanding of your current dietary habits.
These are not included in your consultation fee and will be at an additional cost. If I do recommend any supplements or functional testing, then it is your decision whether you would like to purchase them. They are not essential but can often help with your health goals.
At the moment I only do online consultations. These are done via Zoom video call, for which you will be sent an invitation link. The link will then take you through to their website to join or to the Zoom app if you have this.
I do not work by numbers on the scale or inches lost because everybody’s journey will be different. Someone who is stressed might not benefit from too many changes and it might take longer to lose weight than others. It is more important for me to focus on optimal health over numbers. Some people may also have underlying health challenges, like poor gut health or hormonal imbalances, so my initial focus will be to work on these first and then weight loss will come more naturally.
I do not work with children (under 18s) or cancer patients, and I do not focus specifically on fertility support. However, I am happy to help advise how to best support the immune system and hormonal balance. I would also be happy to recommend nutritional therapists who specialise in these areas if preferred.
My view is that people are individual and may have a different area of focus. Two people of the same age, weight and with the same health goals might benefit from completely different dietary plans due to their individual needs. Because of this, I prefer to work with people on a one-to-one basis. However, I do understand that people may prefer to follow a plan or programme with another person. If this is something that you would like to do with another person or small group, then please get in touch with any queries.
If you are unable to access Zoom or the internet, then the appointment can be done over the phone. If preferred, you can also choose to do the consultation over the phone instead of online. Please ensure to inform me of this once you have booked your consultation.
